Collaboration Meeting of the NUSES Project at GSSI

The collaboration meeting of the NUSES project recently concluded at the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI). NUSES—an ambitious space-mission initiative promoted by GSSI in partnership with INFN, the Italian Space Agency and Thales Alenia Space—brought together academic researchers and industry partners to align on milestones and technical goals.

Our Role in NUSES

Nuclear Instruments is proud to provide the complete electronics suite for data acquisition, as well as the firmware and software that enable full experiment control aboard the satellite. In dedicated sessions, our engineers detailed the system architecture, communication protocols and data-management workflows that will ensure reliable operation in orbit.

Innovative Satellite Payloads

The NUSES satellite will host two groundbreaking payloads:

  • TERZINA, an optical telescope designed to detect Cherenkov light from high-energy neutrinos and cosmic rays.
  • ZIRÉ, a particle detector measuring electrons, protons and light nuclei, with applications ranging from space-weather monitoring to investigations of potential links between seismic activity and particle flux.

Technical Discussions & Thanks

Throughout the meeting, teams reviewed the status of payload assembly and testing, fine-tuned simulation strategies and planned data-analysis pipelines. We left inspired by the strong collaboration and shared vision for pushing the boundaries of space science. A heartfelt thank you to the GSSI hosts and all project partners for their commitment to making NUSES a reality.
